Happy Hanukkah – The Festival of Lights

The 8 days and nights of Hanukkah begin this year on the evening of December 8. The traditions of Hanukkah are celebrated throughout the world, as the Jewish faith commemorates an ancient victory in war, and were miraculously able to keep the temple Eternal Light lit for 8 days although they had only enough oil for 1 day.

Daily prayers, menorahs, potato latkes and donuts (cooked in oil to remember the miracle of the Eternal Light), small gifts, and golden coins (often filled with chocolate) symbolize the festivities; and blue and white candles, dreidels (4-sided tops), table settings and decorations add to the festivities.

Special Hanukkah songs are sung throughout the 8 days, many to help teach young children about this special celebration.

At HaveDeals we wish all our Jewish friends a Happy Hannukkah!

Every day is Cyber Monday at our house. Years of living in Europe, lots of godchildren far away in the United States and the birth of amazon.com combined to turn me into a life-long fan and heavy-duty user of online shopping. And now living back in the US I still do most of my shopping on my laptop or iPad or iPhone. Birthdays, weddings, baptisms, graduations: I'm always online searching for a deal! Now, I want to share some of my shopping tips with you. You can also visit me on my blog: She's Shopping Now
